Mid-August is the new refloat window for cargo vessel MV DAN (IMO 8415160), still grounded off Nyali Beach since 22 June, after the owner named salvage contractor Yaa Holdings Limited and Kenya Maritime Authority began technical-regulatory review of the recovery plan, Eastleigh Voice reported.
Director General CPA Omae Nyarandi said specialised equipment is being mobilised and the exercise will start only when approvals and gear are ready, timed for favourable tides and weather. An earlier hope of starting around 13 July slipped so paperwork and kit could catch up.
Pollution risk assessed low — vigilance stays high
KMA's post-grounding inspection found the hull intact with no oil leak, keeping marine pollution risk low. Coast Guard still runs round-the-clock security with Navy and Ports Authority support to block vandalism and unauthorised boarding while crew welfare is monitored. Owner SLA Maritime Co. S.A. is cooperating, KMA said.
Beach communities and small craft need clear exclusion zones during the lift. Tourism and swimming notices should update as tugs and barges arrive, not after the first viral video of a leaning hull.
