Kenya and Dubai launch business council to unlock trade and investment

Kenya and Dubai launch business council to unlock trade and investment

Key points

  • A Kenya–Dubai business council has been launched to deepen trade links.
  • The council is meant to unlock investment conversations beyond one-off trade missions.
  • SMEs will only benefit if visas, logistics and standards barriers are on the agenda.

Trade missions smile for cameras; councils are supposed to keep the minutes. Standard Business reports that Kenya and Dubai have launched a Kenya Business Council to boost trade and investment as both sides chase closer commercial ties.

Dubai is already a logistics and capital hub for African firms. Kenya brings agriculture, services, aviation connectivity and a regional market pitch. A standing council can fix recurring frictions — standards, payment rails, investment aftercare — if it is staffed and meets on a calendar, not only at inauguration dinners.

What Kenyan firms should put on the table

Market access for horticulture and tea, tourism packages, fintech partnerships, and clear rules for capital inflows into manufacturing and housing. Women- and youth-led SMEs need a seat so the council is not only blue-chip clubs.

Watch for published workplans and annual scorecards. Without them, “launch” is the whole product.

Geopolitics of commerce

Kenya is diversifying partners while managing traditional Western and Asian ties. Councils are tools; strategy still sits in Nairobi.
