Daniel Ochieng, 42, comes from Kisumu and still treats Lake Victoria’s towns and rural wards as a primary newsroom. He spent his twenties reporting local government before moving into longer accountability projects.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Daystar University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Investigative Journalism from the Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications in Nairobi. His reporting has focused on public spending, land, service delivery and how national policy is felt outside the capital.
At ZaKenya he leads Investigations & Counties coverage — patient document-driven reporting paired with on-the-ground interviews. He splits time between Nairobi and western Kenya.
