Kenya’s track-and-field powerhouse is trying to run its back office at modern pace. Eastleigh Voice reports that Athletics Kenya has launched Riadha Connect, a platform meant to modernise athlete management by bringing registration, performance tracking, competition management and anti-doping support into one centralised digital system.

For a federation that feeds Olympic finals and Diamond League podiums, administration has often lagged talent. Paper forms, fragmented spreadsheets and last-minute clearance dramas hurt athletes who train in Rift Valley camps far from Nairobi offices. A working national database is not glamorous — but it is how federations prove eligibility, manage transfers and respond when anti-doping questions arise.

What “centralised” must actually mean

Launch day is easy; adoption is hard. County associations need training and reliable connectivity. Athletes need mobile-friendly flows, not desktop-only portals. Coaches need exportable performance histories. Anti-doping modules only help if they integrate with testing calendars and education, not if they become another login nobody opens.

Transparency also matters: clear rules on who can edit records, how disputes are escalated, and how data protection law applies to minors and adults in the system.

If Riadha Connect works, sponsors and World Athletics partners gain cleaner data; if it fails, it becomes another abandoned sports IT project. Athletes should demand that digital tools shorten, not lengthen, the path from school meets to national trials.
