  • Focus Markets, SMEs, trade, personal finance, coastal economy

Amina Hassan, 36, was raised in Mombasa, where port traffic, tourism and family trading businesses made the economy feel personal long before it became her beat. She still returns to the coast for stories that national desks often under-cover.

She earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from Strathmore University and an MSc in Economics from the University of Nairobi. Early career work included business desks and SME reporting, with a focus on access to credit, informal trade and consumer prices.

As Business & Economy Editor at ZaKenya she commissions and writes practical explainers on markets, regulation and household money — always with Kenya’s dual formal and informal economy in view. She is based in Nairobi.
