“The government has cleared the entire amount of pending bills owed to contractors, a total of Sh177 billion, which remained unpaid since 2020, leading to the stalling of the construction of 6,000 kilometres of roads across Kenya,” Kindiki said. He framed the cash as the unlock for crews to return to sites after years of financing friction, not as a new construction announcement alone.
Murang’a corridors, student beds and a mission hospital
Locally, Kindiki said two major roads promised by President William Ruto in Murang’a had started, with six kilometres of one contract completed and blacktop works expected to begin. The contractor on the Makenji–Karimamwaro–Mukoe–Kandara road was already on site, he said, while Mau Mau roads and other county projects were progressing. Beyond roads, he cited investment in markets, housing and student accommodation — more than 180,000 rooms for university and TVET students — and announced a Sh50 million government commitment to upgrade Gaichanjiru Mission Hospital with ICU, HDU, theatre and laboratory works. Ruto donated Sh10 million toward equipment; Kindiki added Sh5 million.
