Mombasa Child Trafficking Bust: 22 Girls Rescued, Suspect Charged

Detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit made one of the most significant child exploitation breakthroughs along Kenya's coast this year, arraigning suspect Almasi Rama Amos before Shanzu Law Courts in Mombasa on May 22, 2026, after intelligence-led raids on two separate hideouts rescued a total of 22 underage girls from a trafficking network.

Two Raids, 22 Girls Freed

Weeks of surveillance led detectives to a hideout in Nguu Tatu Estate in Mombasa, where officers discovered three underage girls. Intelligence gathered during that first raid pointed investigators toward a second location in Ribe, Rabai Sub-County — roughly 30 kilometres north-west of Mombasa — where a follow-up operation uncovered 19 more girls, bringing the total to 22. Almasi Rama Amos was arraigned on four charges: defilement, child trafficking for sexual exploitation, promotion of child trafficking, and child abuse.

What Comes Next

The case against Almasi Rama Amos will proceed through Shanzu Law Courts. Investigators are processing materials and digital evidence recovered from both raided sites, which could expose wider syndicate linkages and lead to additional arrests.
