At Sibanga market ground on Saturday, 25 July 2026, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna turned a Linda Mwananchi stop into a dual message: freeze opposition votes into one ticket against President William Ruto, and let Western Kenya audition him for that ticket, Eastleigh Voice reported.
He framed outreach as wide — Gusii already “with us,” Western asked whether to open talks with Kamba and Mt Kenya blocs, and only “Kasongo” locked out of the conversation. The crowd energy, however, was more personal: speakers kept urging Sifuna himself to take the presidential lane because the region “deserved” it. Unity doctrine and personal succession theatre shared the same microphone.
The flatbed cast
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale lent county and parliamentary weight. Babu’s script was jobs, prices and graft. Sifuna, freshly removed as ODM secretary-general, pointed at citizen paybill traffic — many Sh10 hits — as proof the project is not bankrolled by State House money.
Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi and Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula absorbed the day’s boos as symbols of Western deal-making with the centre. Whether that hostility becomes a written political divorce or fades after the convoy leaves will show in joint calendars over the next quarter.
