The decision draws delegates from Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu and Taita Taveta. Organisers cast the move as part of a search for a more coordinated regional position on Coast interests. Putting a sitting governor at the centre of FPK’s expansion pitch could give the party a stronger footprint across those six counties — if the paper process catches up with the podium.
Endorsement is not yet a completed transition
Godhana’s proposed elevation still has to pass the party’s established procedures before it becomes a completed leadership transition. The report is careful on that point: delegate cheer is not the same as gazetted office-holding inside FPK. For Coast voters, the practical questions are whether FPK can field candidates under one brand, how it relates to broader opposition or broad-based maths, and whether county assemblies and IEBC paperwork follow the endorsement.

For traders in Mombasa and farmers in Tana River, the practical test is candidate lists and resource-sharing language — not only who chairs FPK. Formal party process is the bridge between today’s endorsement and a ballot paper next year.
