Kenya’s long-range plan is more than halfway built — and still short of the growth engine it promised. Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat CEO Kenneth Nzai said implementation sits around 66.1 per cent, Eastleigh Voice reported, as talks open on life after 2030.
Nzai said delivery ran through five-year Medium-Term Plans. The political pillar led at about 88 per cent, foundations and enablers about 61.6 per cent, social about 59 per cent. The economic pillar remains weakest: the vision’s aggressive target of sustained 10 per cent GDP growth was not achieved. “The targets that we put were very, very aggressive, 10% GDP growth consistently, that we have not achieved,” he said, while insisting reforms still reshaped the country. He pointed to the Standard Gauge Railway from Mombasa to Naivasha, the Nairobi Expressway, Lamu Port and the LAPSSET corridor, plus health infrastructure, UHC reforms, social protection, TVETs, digital payments, capital markets and SEZs. “Vision 2030 has changed the country. It is evidence, it is not talk,” he argued, citing Aliko Dangote’s interest in Lamu as confidence linked to LAPSSET planning.
Scorecards without 10% growth still leave youth waiting
Infrastructure ribbons do not automatically become formal jobs. The next blueprint will be judged on productivity and employment, not only kilometres of rail and port berths.
