How to Use eCitizen for Government Services in Kenya (2026 Guide)

  • eCitizen (www.ecitizen.go.ke) is the government front door for Immigration, BRS, many licences and invoices.
  • Type the address yourself. Fake “eCitizen” ads and WhatsApp links are common.
  • Keep the phone and email on the account working — OTP and password reset go there.
  • If locked out: official Forgot Password on the same domain. Unpaid invoices block the next step; they do not need a broker.

Create or recover an account

  1. Open https://www.ecitizen.go.ke/.
  2. Register with your National ID (or the ID type the form asks for), a Kenyan mobile number, and an email you control.
  3. Complete any ID verification the portal requests.
  4. Bookmark the official URL.

Pay an invoice

Most services generate an eCitizen invoice. Pay with M-Pesa, card, or the banks listed on the payment screen. Save the receipt PDF. Start from the invoice so the reference matches your application.

If it goes wrong

  • Forgot password: official reset only. If the email never arrives, check spam and that the account email is still yours.
  • Phone number changed: you may need the remaining channel (email) or a Huduma / agency desk with original ID.
  • Paid but status unpaid: wait for the callback, then use the portal’s payment enquiry with the invoice number. Keep the M-Pesa SMS.
